Most health ads try to make people care about a number. A1C, blood pressure, cholesterol. Nobody has ever been scared of a number.
On 15 October, Metabolae, a Ceylon cinnamon supplement for blood sugar, launched an 8 minute 24 second ad in the US. It opens in a car. A grandmother is driving her two grandkids home from school, and they want her to sing the high part. Ten seconds later: "Max. Max, I can't see." Then: "I can't see the road!"
Three weeks later it's still in the top 20 out of the 2,500+ ads on its page.
That's an accident ad. Instead of explaining the problem, it shows the afternoon the problem stops being a number on a chart. The viewer never gets a lecture on diabetic eye damage. They watch a grandmother lose the road with two kids in the back seat, and then lose her car keys.
And it isn't a one-off. BioRoot Labs, a turmeric joint supplement, opens its ad on a grandad on the floor after a fall, while his granddaughter decides it's her fault for asking him to fetch her toys. An aged garlic supplement opens with "My husband collapsed at our daughter's graduation." Metabolae's own #6 ad opens on a dad whose heart stops while he's making pancakes for his daughter.
None of these products has anything to do with accidents. That's the point. A safety product showing a crash is just a demo. A supplement borrowing one puts the buyer inside the moment they'd do anything to avoid, and then hands them the way out.
